Forgive me, for I have failed. I have not been consistent in my writing, and for that reason I deserve whatever carnage this world has in store for me. Why? I became lazy. i forgot my desire to spread knowledge, to stand up against evil.
Furthermore, I am also an idiot. I accidentally deleted on of my entries regarding epicurus’s God rationale, to which I received a number of well thought out, intelligent responses. I regret that I had not saved my actual entry in another location, however I was able to find 2 of the comments in my email.
A person under the name of Slater wrote the following:
“Free will does not produce good and evil. Free will produces different opinions. No human (or animal for that matter) has EVER done anything to be evil. Even Hitler wasn’t evil – he was merely doing what his sick mind thought was “the right thing” – he was trying to create a better world.
This however also disproves God, as he cannot be infinitely just and good while punishing people for doing what they think is best.”
Mr. Slater, I don’t think I could disagree with you more. First off, there have been several cases of criminals who act simply because the pain and misery they cause bring them pleasure. This is the essence of evil, and this occurs because these criminals have free will. With that in mind, you are completely incorrect with your statement “No human (or animal for that matter) has EVER done anything to be evil.” To support your reasoning you bring in the example of Hitler. A good choice, because Hitler is arguably one of the most evil men to have inhabited this planet. You state that Hitler was trying to create a better world, and that what he did was not evil, but rather what he simply believed was correct. So do you believe Hitler should have been punished if apprehended? Judging from the reasoning you have given thus far, I can only assume that you would have advocated Hitler and allowed him to continue his terrorism. If everyone is simply doing what they think is right, then does evil even exist? If not, then how does Epicurus’s God rationale, with the theme being evil, disprove God’s existence? Regarding God, you say that he cannot be infinetly just and good while punishing those who do what they feel is right? What you are forgetting is that God comes with His own laws, not just the laws of man. Why should God punish those who disobeys His religion? For the same reason that He should reward the ones that follow it.

From my understanding of this, you are stating that because complete free will exists, God cannot. The reasoning being is that He should find some way to allow free will without evil, yet that it not so. Forgive me if my interpretation is incorrect. Again, good and evil are opposites. They are needed, just as hot needs cold. Now, perhaps you wonder where God’s justice lies for the victims of evil? Just as I stated in my previous paragraph, if one accepts God, they must accept the entire package. In this case, I am referring to the after-life. God has promised that those who were wronged in this life will be retributed in the Hereafter. There lies God’s justice. A follower of God believes that this life is a test and our true existence lies in the after life, whether suffering in Hell or enjoying paradise. Either way, once one grasps the concept of such an after life, it is easy to see that God is just. Those who enjoy this life will have to work harder to succeed in the next. Those who suffered will recieve a more lenient judgment. Simply put, God’s justice is not, and cannot be, limited to this life alone.
Thank all of you who have taken the time to read my entries. A special thanks to those who comment, whether it is to agree or challenge. You are always welcome here, and I truly appreciate your time. Lastly, once again I apologize for the lenghty delay between my posts. I will strive to ensure that such a delay never occurs again.
